What Is The Orchid Show Management System?
This program was created to automate all of the associated procedures
with registrations of plants in an orchid show. The program's creator,
Rick Hillier, being an orchid enthusiast himself, has been involved
in the organization of many orchid shows put on by his local orchid
society, The Central Ontario Orchid Society (COOS), and in particular,
the registration of plants.
In his own words:
"I am all too familiar with the drudgery and long hours involved
in collecting the data associated with registrations and the production
of judging lists for the "morning crew." Producing these lists
manually, even for a relatively small show was an all-night task.
When it became apparent that no satisfactory computerized solutions
were available, The Orchid Show Management System was created. Now,
instead of working all night preparing judging lists and summaries,
I have actually been home and in bed at 10:30 pm (after closing registrations
at 9:30 pm) with all lists and summaries printed, collated and ready
for the "morning crew." With The Orchid Show Management System
working for you, you can even be a part of that "morning crew",
even if you were involved with producing the judging lists and summaries
the previous day... and you'll have even had a good night's sleep on
top of it all!!!"
We have concentrated on making this program very easy to use. You do
not need to be a computer wizard to be able to set it up or use it.
If you have a smaller show, the program can run standalone on a single
computer. If you have a larger show and the actual task of typing in
all of the required information would require more than one person,
that's no problem too! The Orchid Show Management System can also run
in a networked environment too. There's nothing extra to set up or configure.
Features:
- Runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, standalone or on any compatible
network.
- Comes preloaded with a set of classifications and categories conforming
to the Mid-America Orchid Congress classifications. These may be modified
to suit your particular show program.
Comes with a comprehensive list of abbreviations, full names and hybrid
formulae where available.
- All data entry screens are efficient and very easy to use.
- Entry forms may be printed by the program in advance or upon demand.
- Plant lists may be printed by class or by grower. The report includes
each plant's "place" in its category as well as any special
awards that it might have won. A great report to have for anyone putting
a show report together for a society bulletin.
- The judging summary report shows a count of plants by class as well
as by categories, which makes it easy for a head judge to distribute
judging duties.
- The judging lists are clean, concise and are arranged so that travel
time for the judging teams and spotters are kept to a minimum.
- The first place winners report showing the plants that placed first
in their respective categories makes it easy to go back and judge for
"best in class."
- The best in class report facilitates easy judging for special awards.
- Many of the dialog boxes and entry screens in the program are adorned
with attractive pictures of orchids. Who said that computer software
needs to be boring???
